Angiopoietin-2 in type 2 diabetes mellitus complication

Abstract
Angiopoietin-2 is an important growth factor
essential for endothelial physiology and has been implicated in vascular
related diseases. Circulating Angiopoietin-2 levels have been reported to be
elevated in type 2 diabetes mellitus compared to normoglycaemic people. These
elevations lead to excessive or deficient angiogenesis with resultant diabetes
mellitus complications. It’s important to understand that targeting the molecular
pathway of Angiopoietin-2 may become an effective anti-angiogenic therapy in
type 2 diabetes mellitus complications.
